weekend eats
My elimination diet prep went out the window this weekend. A combination of still being under the weather, most meals eaten out and an impromptu dinner party put the ED firmly on the back burner. And that's just fine. I've decided that until I officially begin, weekends are not for fasting.
Friday night we met friends at Dokebi and I had Japchae and a hot toddy. It was my first Dokebi departure from bibimbap and while the japcae (sweet potato cellophane noodles w chicken and vegetables) was good, bibimbap remains the #1 reason to eat at dokebs. I was supposed to go to the Yumi Zouma show w Erica after but my still lingering cough put the kibosh on that and I give Nikki my ticket.
Saturday morning, Adam's brother, Patrick, and his fiancé, Carly, came up to Brooklyn to look for wedding bands. We had brunch at Diner where I ate butter beans with poached eggs and a green tea. Patrick and I got the same thing, but mine was not nearly so graphic. Later we met up with Ryan and Erin from Baltimore to see the David Hockney show at the Met. Afterwards everyone came back to out apartment where we ordered a feast from Bar Bolinas and played resistance. Everyone questioned my decision to order take out whole trout but it's spicy filling ended up being a hit with all. And when you are trying to feed a crowd with take out - why not order two whole fish? Also, Bar Bolinas' nachos filled the nacho sized hole in my heart left by River Styx. RIP River Styx.
Sunday morning we walked to Stonefruit with Patrick and Carly before they headed back to DC. I ate oats and chia pudding w stewed figs and cherries and a matcha latte (pictured). In the afternoon, after our guests were gone Adam and I ate pork ragu leftovers. And for dinner I made my favorite roasted carrot salad since we were both barely hungry after such a marathon eating weekend. Plus, ED chocolate chip cookies! (They weren't meant to be ED but I realized that because of this ED prep I have no eggs or AP flour in the apartment right now, and guess what...they were good! Recipe to come soon after some more experimentation.)
