comfort food
Apart from the delicious jerk chicken Tess and Peter fed me my first night in town, I've spent this week in LA eating out. I have yet to become the type (unlike my brother) to cook lavish meals for myself in an airbnb or hotel room.) When all meals are eaten in restaurants it's hard to tell exactly what you are ingesting and so while I am sticking with my ED diet, I am not freaking out if I accidentally consume something not on the list. That said, it's probably not a good time to be challenging new foods so have paused the reintroduction process until I get home. It hasn't been so bad to find things to eat, especially now that nightshades and eggs back in the equation. This makes everything exponentially easier, especially in terms of meeting friends for breakfast. I went to Blu Jam Cafe with my friend Fernanda yesterday and ordered a scramble with no cheese and no toast. To which Fernanda followed up the the waitress, "no fun". It's still makes me mildly embarrassed to order this way but since it's LA no one even bats an eye.
After all these meals out, I didn't realize I was missing home cooked meals until my friend Grossman made this impromptu feast yesterday. I was supposed to meet him at his house to do a conference call then go to lunch but as I arrived I saw him pulling a roast chicken out of the oven. This is the same DG of sweet potato hash fame and he always plates well. This roast chicken and veg with basmati rice and avocado was no exception. And it was delightful to eat in in the sun in his backyard with a massive cup of tea to keep the cold I'm fighting at bay.
I'm headed to Park City tonight then back to New York on Tuesday. Wondering if Ski Lodge food will be a big challenge or if Chili and French Fries can sustain me for the weekend.
