favorite yogurt & granola
One of my favorite parts of one of my favorite books about pregnancy, Homing Instincts was when the author talked about sitting on her porch eating huge bowls of yogurt and granola topped with all kinds of additions she found in her kitchen and when she fed the same thing to a non-p friend it knocked her on her ass. I read this while I was living in Costa Mesa, land of Chick-Fil-A and In-n-Out and my nausea hadn't quite subsided to the point where I could stomach the look of vegetables. At this point in time my eating habits were firmly in the chicken nuggets / sugar cereal / juice with ice camp and I credit this granola passage and my immediate desire for it in helping me get back on track to eating like a normal person again. Thankfully in the second half of my second trimester I became myself again re: food meaning I like vegetables, I want to cook, I eat balanced meals, I don't crave snickers bars or pizza hut. It was an interesting time warp back to the eating habits of my 90's Baltimore childhood during that first trimester but I have to say, I'm glad it's over. Here's my preferred breakfast these days:
Fage Plain Greek Yogurt with a teaspoon of natural honey mixed in
Early Bird Jubilee Granola
Salted Pepitas
Grapes
Chia Seeds

I've been doing Flying Kite (almond milk) yogurt with Purely Elizabeth granola, blueberries and cinnamon! So good...
