I'm thrilled to be reading on the subway again. The first book back was Winter Journal. I always thought it was so classically male / female that in the  about the author sections of their books Siri Hustvedt lists that she is married to Paul Auster but he never lists he is married to her. I judged him for it. But then I read Winter Journal which was so full of love for Siri and I judged him less.

My former roommate arranges her books by lives of the authors and she used to shelve Paul Auster with Lydia Davis. After reading the below she wrote to tell me she'd re-shelved, now PA and SH are together.
